Building cap vs unit cap

Building cap vs unit cap

I am just curious as to the reasoning on a building cap. I know turn based strategy and real time strategy games are quite different. But I would liken this game to starcraft 2, in starcraft buildings are infint while there is a cap on the army size, in elwg you have to have enough power to build a building with is awesome, but the building cap can be rather annoying especially if one builds a lot of coin collectors. Wouldn't it be more strategic to put the cap on units rather than buildings. I regularly hit my building cap and have yet to hit a unit cap. I can understand the point of a cap on turrets so that one doesn't simply fill the map with turrets, but i dont think barracks factories etc shouldn't have a cap. Just my 2 cents, and maybe I'm overlooking something to, like I said I was just curious in the reason.
